Iran: More Than 1,000 Employees Laid Off Due To Lame-Duck Economy

ICBHR– At least 1,100 employees in Tehran have been laid off after the employers and contractors failed to pay wages.

Iran’s economic plight led owners to expel about 1,100 employees- who worked in chain restaurants in Tehran- amid a broader CoronaVirus outbreak in the country.

The short-term lockdown and restrictions, and nationwide panic disorder because of COVID-19 forced people to stay at homes, directly affecting the lame-duck economy.

Further, Tehran municipality laborers have not been paid for months, state-run ISNA quoting the city council.
